General Information
The HIV Prevention Center is a specialized healthcare institution that provides counseling, diagnostic, treatment, preventive, and follow-up care services for people living with HIV. The Center’s activities are aimed at minimizing the spread of HIV infection and providing support to people living with HIV and AIDS.
The Municipal State Enterprise with the Right of Economic Management "Regional HIV Prevention Center" under the State Institution "Health Department of Zhetysu Region" was established in accordance with Resolution No. 40 of the Akimat of Zhetysu Region dated September 9, 2022.
The governing authority of the institution is the Health Department of Zhetysu Region.
The Center includes the following structural divisions:
- Organizational and Methodological Department;
- Epidemiological Monitoring Department;
- Disease Prevention and Public Relations Department;
- Treatment, Preventive Care, and Dispensary Services Department;
- Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory;
- Psychosocial Testing Office;
- Trust Point and Needle Exchange Service (distribution of condoms, lubricants, and information, education, and communication materials);
- Friendly Clinic (STI diagnostics, treatment of sexually transmitted infections among key populations, HIV and hepatitis testing, post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)).
Main Objectives of the Institution
- Conducting epidemiological surveillance of HIV infection in the Zhetysu Region;
- Organizing and implementing comprehensive measures aimed at preventing and reducing the spread of HIV infection;
- Providing qualified and specialized medical care to people living with HIV and patients with AIDS;
- Conducting screening tests for HIV infection, viral hepatitis B and C, and AIDS-indicator infections;
- Performing the laboratory stage of sentinel epidemiological surveillance of HIV infection in the region;
- Verifying serum samples submitted for confirmatory testing from laboratories conducting HIV testing.
To achieve its goals and objectives, the institution collaborates with medical, sanitary, treatment and preventive healthcare organizations, as well as cultural and educational institutions, law enforcement agencies, commercial organizations, and public associations.
